The Scene vs. The Tube

Monday, June 1st, 2009 | Vision | 4 Comments

Detroit’s The Scene was a TV dance show that ran daily from 1975 to 1987. With Mojo and The Wizard on the radio and The Scene on TV - no wonder Detroit spawned so much great music in that time period. Check the hair, fashion, mic and air guitar.

Meanwhile on the other side of the pond, England’s The Tube was less about the dancers and more about contemporary rock and pop, being instrumental in launching the careers of many artists. In this clip Greg Wilson is the first UK dj to mix live on national TV. Check the hair, fashion, mic and headphones!

Herbie Hancock jammin’ on his Fairlight

Herbie Hancock with Quincy Jones jammin’ on his Fairlight, back in the the day when you sequenced with a metal tipped pen on a monochrome monitor. Really highlights the fact the it’s musicians who put the funk into the machines.
